The earth looks small when seen from space, and in some sense it has become small. Individually, we will each visit only a small fraction of the surface of our planet, but collectively our species has explored all but a few remote areas of land and we travel easily over oceans once considered vast and daunting. Now more than ever, we have the opportunity to see the varied beauty of our earth through the eyes of others with help from the Internet and the gift of photography.
